Read a good book. Meet new and interesting people who've read it too. Feed your brain...and your stomach. For a list of our past reads, please see the calendar or the photo album. Our focus is on finding worthwhile literature and still covering a variety of eras, countries and fiction (and once in a while, non fiction) genres. We try to find books that are a manageable length (200-350 pages) and that make us think. (Our members are well-educated, but note that the majority of us do not have e …

Inspired by a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, about a long-running reading group in which the members read books aloud -- 35 or so pages a meeting -- they've read Dickens, Milton, Tolstoy, Faulkner, the Brontes, Eliot, Austen. In addition to the book we're reading (our first is The Transit of Venus), we've begun meetings by reading other short pieces or poems.

Please read on to find out how we run our book club! Each Meet Up will r …

Ulysses is one of those books that, if you didn't read it in college, you're not likely to ever read it in adult life. So many of us who used to love reading books, maybe majored in English in college, now don't have the time to really read anymore. The purpose of this meetup is simple: Let's read Joyce's Ulysses, as a group, this winter/spring. We'll meet regularly, give ourselves motivation to read the book and discuss it, and get to check it off a list. I've read it twice in college so I can …
Our passion is teaching English to immigrants...and learning English from experts! Join us to study English in a loose, closely knit group, among friends. Not your regular classroom setting, but caring and sharing. Here is a post about the literature classes that I posted in my blog in May of 2011. It has links to the text and a bit about them.
